Assessment groups visiting quake-stricken areas in Khorasan province

Tehran, Jan 29, IRNA – Three teams of rapid assessment groups of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) have been dispatched to the quake-stricken area of Sultanabad in Khorasan Razavi province, spokesman of Relief and Rescue Organization of the IRCS Hossein Drakhshan said.

'After it was reported that a 4.6 Richter quake has happened in Hematabad of Khorasan Razavi province the crisis headquarters was formed at the Control Center of the IRCS and by establishing phone contact with Khorasan Razavi Red Crescent the evaluation teams have been dispatched to the quake-stricken areas,' Drakhshan said.

He noted that after the dispatch of evaluation teams of the IRCS to the quake epicenter near Neyshabour city, Taghounkah region and Takhteh Jolgeh region, a total of 15 villages to the radius of 10 kilometers have been regarded as being located in quake zone.

He noted that the evaluation teams are presently in quake-stricken areas and they are conducting primate evaluations concerning the recent quake.

An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale jolted the town of Soltanabad along provincial borders of Khorasan Razavi and North Khorasan.
