President: Iran not to accept restrictions on peaceful N. technology

Tehran, Jan 26, IRNA -- President Hassan Rouhani once again underlined that Iran will not accept any limitations in the context of peaceful nuclear technology.

“In the context of R&D and peaceful nuclear technology, we will not accept any limitations,” said President Rouhani in an interview with CNN on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

'Nuclear energy is part of Iranians’ national pride,” the Iranian president added.

“Nuclear technology has become indigenous and recently we have managed to secure very considerable prowess with regard to fabrication of centrifuges.”

President Rouhani said that Tehran is ready to finalize a nuclear deal with six major world powers if they have the necessary political will for it.

The accord, which was reached between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) in Geneva on November 24 last, is aimed at setting the stage for the full resolution of the West’s decade-old standoff with Tehran over its nuclear energy program.

Under the Geneva deal, which was implemented on January 20, the six countries undertook to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Tehran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period. It was also agreed that no nuclear-related sanctions would be imposed on the country within the same timeframe.
