Swiss MP urges lifting of all unilateral Iran sanctions

Berlin, Jan 26, IRNA -- A Swiss lawmaker of the Swiss People's Party (SVP) called on his country to remove all unilateral sanctions against Iran.

Talking to the Swiss daily Tagesanzeiger, Roland Rino Buechel stressed that time had finally come to lift all sanctions imposed over Tehran's nuclear program.

Referring to efforts by Swiss President Didier Burkhalter to end the sanctions against Iran next week, Buechel said that was the correct thing to do since Tehran had normalized its relations with the West.

The legislator said imposing sanctions was generally 'problematic' given the fact Switzerland was neutral and was always seeking to have cordial and cooperative ties with all countries around the world.

Buechel added the lifting of Iran sanctions would lead to 'significant improvements' in bilateral relations.

He said Swiss companies in the area of banking, pharmacy, energy and mechanical engineering would stand to benefit from the removal Iran sanctions.

'Trade ties between Switzerland Iran have great potential,' Buechel reiterated.

Meanwhile, Buechel hailed also the recent speech of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at the high-profile World Economic Forum in Davos, labeling it 'positive'.
