Iran's Hojjati attending Agriculture Ministers' Summit in Berlin

Berlin, Jan 19, IRNA -- Iran's Minister of Agriculture Jihad Mahmoud Hojjati is taking part at the 6th Agricultural Ministers' Summit in Berlin, IRNA reported here Saturday.

Representating nearly 3 billion people or 40 percent of the world population, some 72 agriculture ministers are attending the top-level meeting following an invitation by the German agricultural ministry.

Invitees include also the representatives of the UN, European Commission and the World Bank.

Talks were focusing on socio-economic, as well as ecological challenges for the food and agricultural industry amid a growing world population and worsening climate change.

The summit coincided with a protest march of tens of thousands in the German capital city, Berlin, demanding fundamental changes to global agricultural policies.

Under the slogan, 'We are fed up,' the protesters called for an end to food scandals, genetic engineering and animal cruelty in industrial livestock farming.
