British police arrest two women over terror offences

London, Jan 16, IRNA -- British police have arrested two women in London on suspicion of terrorism offences.

Two women aged 26 and 27 have been arrested on Thursday and two addresses in north and northwest London are being searched, the Metropolitan Police said.

The first woman, aged 26, was arrested at Heathrow Airport in the morning, as she tried to board a flight to Istanbul in Turkey.

She was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism, police said, adding that a 'large quantity' of cash was also seized.

Five hours later, the second woman, aged 27, was held on suspicion of the same offence in northwest London and taken into custody.

Both women are now being questioned.

'The arrests were intelligence-led rather than in response to an immediate threat or risk,' local media reported quoting police sources.
