Russia welcomes Iran-P5+1 agreement on implementation of Geneva deal

Moscow, Jan 13, IRNA – Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement on Monday welcomed an agreement between Iran and the P5+1 on resolving the remaining technical and political issues and implementing the November 24 nuclear deal reached between the two sides in Geneva.

Following three rounds of intensive expert-level negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 and a final meeting between EU Deputy Foreign Policy chief Helga Schmid and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, the two sides agreed on the implementation of the Geneva deal, the statement read.

With implementation of the deal from January 20, western countries can intensify control on Iran's nuclear activities within a six-month timeframe to remove their concerns and the US and the EU will ease unilateral sanctions on Tehran in return.

The statement hoped that the successful implementation of the deal would prepare the ground for reaching a comprehensive agreement in a short period of time to defuse a decade-long stand-off.

He called on all sides to proceed with contacts and avoid unwise measures which could damage the course of cooperation.

He reiterated that Russia will make every effort to help end the dispute.
