Zarif off for Beirut

Tehran, Jan 12, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohamamd Javad Zarif heading a high-ranking delegation left Tehran for Beirut late Sunday for talks with Lebanese officials.

The regional tour will first take Zarif to Lebanon and then to Iraq, Jordan and Syria.

The top diplomat is scheduled to discuss bilateral ties, implementation of agreements signed by the two countries, regional and global cooperation, fighting terrorism, Syrian crisis and Geneva II International Conference with Lebanese authorities.

Pursuit of terror attack near Iran's embassy in Beirut which killed Iranian cultural attaché in Lebanon Ebrahim Ansari is another topic to be dealt with during his stay in Beirut.

Majid al-Majid, leader of the terrorist group behind the deadly operations was recently arrested and died under suspicious conditions later.

Zarif is scheduled to confer with President Michel Suleiman, Parliament Speaker Nabih Beri and Prime Minister Najib Mikati during his visit to Beirut.

Lebanon is the first destination of Zarif's regional trips, to be followed by Jordan and Iraq.
