Boroujerdi confers with Irish MP on parliamentary  cooperation with Ireland

Tehran, Jan 11, IRNA – Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi on Saturday conferred with Chairman of Irish Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, Pat Breen, on ways to develop parliamentary cooperation with Ireland.

Boroujerdi said that the Islamic Republic of Iran advocates expansion of relations with European states on mutual interest.

He said the Iranian and Irish parliaments as representatives of the Iranian and Ireland people, can facilitate expansion of relations between the two governments. He said that Iranian Majlis welcomes close relations with the Irish parliament and exchange of views with the Ireland MPs.

As for Iran nuclear case, Boroujerdi said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is signatory to Non-Proliferation Treaty and Iran has planned to benefit from the legitimate rights enshrined by NPT.

Backed by the decree of the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution regarding ban on use of Weapons of Mass Destruction in line with NPT, the Islamic Republic of Iran has reached intrim agreement with the G5+1.

Boroujerdi said that Iran will not compromise Iranian people's right to use peaceful use of nuclear energy.

On the human rights issue, Boroujerdi said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is critical of human rights situation in the western countries and is prepared to explain human rights standards and the large extent violation of human rights prevailing in the western countries.

Breen, for his part, hoped that in the years ahead, process of Tehran-Dublin cooperation would speed up.

He said he is visiting Iran to hold talks with Iranian officials to upgrade ties in different domains, especially in commerce and economy.

"Ireland welcomes exchange of political and commercial delegations with Iran and continued dialogue between officials of both countries on issues of mutual interest."

On recent Iran-G5+1 nuclear accord, Breen said Ireland welcomes the accord and is eager to see eventual agreement between the two parties and lifting of sanctions on Iran.
