Turkish envoy: Iran should be invited to Geneva II confab

Tehran, Jan 8, IRNA – Turkish Ambassador to Iran Umit Yardim said that his country believes that Iran should be invited to the Geneva II conference so that it will be able to take effective steps towards settling Syrian crisis.

In a meeting with Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Wednesday, Yardim added that spread of terrorism in the region requires cooperation of major powers in the Islamic world such as Iran and Turkey.

For the same reason, Turkey considers promoting dialogues with Iran as among its priorities in its foreign policy.

Boroujerdi, for his part, said that given the current problems facing the Islamic world, Muslim states should proceed with consultations.

Referring to holding of the Ninth Summit of Muslim Countries Parliament Speakers in mid-February, the top lawmaker noted that the gathering will provide an opportunity for exchange views by MPs from around the world.

Touching on Syrian crisis, he further noted that since the beginning of the crisis Iran has insisted on Syrian-Syrian solution and believes that only dialogue can put an end to the crisis in the country.
