Salehi: IAEA inspectors to arrive in Iran around January, February

Tehran, Jan 7, IRNA – Head of Atomic Energy Organzation of Iran (AEOI) Ali-Akbar Salehi said here on Monday the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors will arrive in Iran sometime around January and February.

Salehi who was speaking late Monday night after the commemoration service for the Palestinian amabssador’s wife said that among the six articles of the AEOI ageemeny with with Yokia Amano there were the IAEA visits of Arak heavy water factory and the Gachin uranium mine.

On addition of technicians to the Iranian nuclear negotiations team, Salehi said that they will be added to the team in accordance with the decision adopted by high ranking Iranian officials, but on the presence of observers from the parliament or the correspodndents in that respect, he said that he knew noting about the matter.

To a question on whether the new added technicians to the negotiation team are harmonized with the current members attitude, Salehi assured the reporters that they definitely are all the members of the same team and there is no problem to waoory about.

The IAEA is quite pleased with its recent visit to Iran’s Arak heavy water facility and the upcoming visit to Gachin uranium mine, Salehi told reporters.

The visit took place within the framework of the agreement reached between Iran and the IAEA before Iran-Sextet nuclear deal in Geneva. In fact, the visits are implementation of two of the provisions of the recent six-article agreement made between Iran and the agency.

The Arak facility produces heavy water intended for use in a nearby research reactor that is under construction.

Under the IAEA Safeguards Agreement, Iran is not obliged to allow such inspections but the voluntary move was a goodwill gesture on the part of Iran to clear up ambiguities over the peaceful nature of its nuclear energy program.

Salehi further hoped for more positive report by the IAEA Director General about the Iranian nuclear program.

As regards the date of the next visit of the IAEA inspectors, Salehi said that it would be within the next three weeks, although its exact date is not specified.
