Zarif to attend Munich Security Conference

Tehran, Jan 4, IRNA – Deputy foreign minister for Euro-American affairs said on Saturday that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will take part in the 50th Munich Security Conference slated to be held on January 31-February 2.

Majid Takht-e Ravanchi told IRNA that Director of Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger has earlier announced sending invitation letter for Iran to take part in the upcoming event.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the conference declared today that Iran's president has been invited to take part in the 50th International Munich Security Summit which is held annually with the participation of leaders of dozens of countries from around the world.

Known as the most acclaimed conference of security officials, the conference was founded in 1962 by German publisher Ewald-Heinrich von Kleist-Schmenzin, German famous military man.

Since 2008 Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger is the chairman of the Munich Security Conference.

No decision is made during the conference and it is organized merely for consultations and political visits on the sidelines of the meeting which beings together politicians from various countries to discuss global security issues.
