Karachi violence claims nine lives

Islamabad, Jan 4, IRNA – At least nine people have been killed in shooting incidents in different areas of port city of Karachi, local media reported on Saturday.

Unknown gunmen opened fire on a shop in Gulshan Iqbal area, killing the shop owner and two workers. Two employees of a nearby store were also injured in the attack.

In a separate incident, two brothers were also gunned down in the area.

In protest against the incident, angry mob took to the streets and blocked the main road.

Another person was killed in Sohrab Goth area while body of a person was found in Baldia Town.

Meanwhile, Rangers personnel conducted raids in Gulshan Iqbal and Sohrab Goth. Seven suspects were arrested in the operation and heavy arms were recovered.

Karachi, a city of 18 million people is rife with murders and kidnappings and has been plagued for years by ethnic, sectarian and political violence.
