Ban Ki-moon condemns Beirut blast

New York, Jan 3, IRNA – United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned the blast in south of Beirut on Thursday and said resort to violence by the conflicting groups in Lebanon is horrible.

A car bomb exploded in the area of Haret Hreik in the southern suburb of Beirut on Thursday, leaving four martyrs, including two women, and over 74 wounded as well as vast damage.

Ban Ki-moon, in a statement on Thursday, by referring to similar car bomb on December 27, 2013 in Beirut, strongly condemned such terrorist acts.

In the statement, secretary general called on all conflicting sides to exercise restraint and settle their disputes through dialogue and negotiation and by respecting the Constitutional Laws.

He urged Lebanese armed forces to consider security and tranquility of Lebanese people.

He condoled with Lebanese people and victims' families and wished a prompt recovery for the injured.

Ban Ki-moon asked Lebanese officials to identify perpetrators of the crime and punish them.
