January 20 proposed date to implement nuclear deal

Tehran, Jan 1, IRNA – Head of Iran's expert-level negotiating team said on Wednesday that experts of Iran and Group 5+1 have set January 20 the date to implement the action plan in line with nuclear deal struck on November 24.

Hamid Baeidinejad told IRNA that of course the date should also be verified by the political directors.

In response to a question whether the date has been changed from late January to January 20, he said that January 20 has been agreed upon by the experts but due to the Christmas recess and a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Helga Smith, deputy of EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton next week may delay putting into practice the action plan for few days.

Foreign media have quoted western diplomats as saying that January 20 is an opportune time for the purpose given the imminent meeting between European Union foreign ministers in Brussels.

Commenting on recent remarks by US Foreign Ministry spokeswomen Marie Harf that agreement with Iran has not yet been fully implemented, Baeidinejad noted that experts of Iran and Group 5+1 have completed their expert studies and submitted the final version to the senior political directors for approval.

Of course, this does not mean full agreement between the two sides in all cases of the November 24 deal, he said, adding that there are still two or three cases which are not of expert nature but they are of significant political nature, which should be solved by the political authorities.
