Bomb attack on pilgrims bus kills 2 in Pakistan

Islamabad, Jan. 01وIRNA -- A bomb blast near a bus of Shiite pilgrims returning from Iran killed at least two people and injured 17 others in the Pakistani city of Quetta late Wednesday, police and health officials said.

Police Chief Abdul Razaq Cheema said the bus, carrying pilgrims, was returning from the Taftan border when the bomb exploded in the outskirts of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan.

Rescue officials said that women and children were among the injured. TV footage showed the bus catch fire.

The injured were shifted to a military and civil hospital. Several injured were registered critical.

Witnesses said they also heard firing after the blast. It was unclear as to who had been firing.

Police said a vehicle of the security forces, guarding the bus, also came under attack. The pilgrims buses are usually escorted by the security forces in view of bomb attacks in the past.

No group claimed responsibility. Banned sectarian groups are blamed for such attacks.

Shiite groups condemned the attack on the pilgrims and announced protest.
