Iran Navy saves Iranian ship from pirates

Tehran, Oct 28, IRNA – An Iranian Navy official said naval forces on Monday foiled an attack by pirates on a domestic commercial ship.

Rear Admiral Siavash Jareh, deputy Navy commander, said the Navy’s 27th flotilla of warships managed to save an Iranian commercial ship besiged by five boats manned by pirates.

The Iranian ship was attacked by the pirates while it was on her way to enter Gulf of Eden, said the official.

After encountering the pirates for several hours, the Iranian naval personnel forced the attackers run away, the official added.

Jareh stressed Iran’s Navy does not intend to kill pirates but its main goal is to provide security for commercial ships and oil tankers belonging to Iran and other countries.

However, he added, the naval forces of Iran will strongly respond to pirates whenever necessary.
