President Rouhani to defend his proposed ministers on Sunday

Tehran, Oct 25, IRNA -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will defend his nominees to undertake three remaining ministerial posts in a Majlis session on Sunday to consider their qualifications.

In a letter to Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Oct 19, the president proposed Ali-Asghar Fani, Reza Faraji Dana and Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri to respectively take the helm of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and the Ministry of Sports and Youth.

Apart from President Rouhani, First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and a number of cabinet ministers will attend the session, according to Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs Majid Ansari.

The president will be allowed to defend his proposed ministers within an hour before the MPs start examining their credentials.

During a four-day debate in August, Majlis ratified credentials of 15 out of the 18 nominees introduced by President Rouhani.

The president appointed caretakers for the three ministries whose proposed ministers failed to receive votes of confidence from Majlis.

Fani and Salehi Amiri are presently caretakers of Ministery of Education and Ministry of Sports and Youth respectively. Jafar Tofiqi is also caretaker of Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.

Faraji Dana is a professor at the University of Tehran and used to serve as the chancellor of the University from 2002 to 2006.
