Zarif to brief parliament on nuclear negotiations

Tehran, Oct 23, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will attend a session of Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission on Sunday to brief the lawmakers on nuclear talks held in Geneva last October, Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi said on Wednesday.

Qashqavi described the attitude of Majlis and the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission toward handling the nuclear talks by Foreign Ministry and the negotiating team as “positive and constructive”.

Zarif was scheduled to participate in a Commission session earlier this week, but he couldn’t do due to back pain and three senior officials of the Foreign Ministry attended the session instead.

As one of foreign minister’s deputies present at the session, Qashqavi said that in his view the explanations of his colleagues were convincing and documented and the lawmakers seemed satisfied with the responses given to their questions.

Iran held talks with six major world countries known as Group 5+1 over its nuclear issue in Geneva, Switzerland on October 15-16.

During Geneva talks, Iran unveiled a new proposal to settle the dispute with the West over its nuclear issue.

The two sides agreed to hold the next round of talks in Geneva on November 7-8.
