Berlin mum on AI report about role in US drone attacks

Berlin, Oct 23, IRNA - The German government has yet to comment on a report by Amnesty International (AI) which accuses Berlin of assisting lethal US drone attacks in Pakistan, IRNA reported here Tuesday.

Neither the government nor the country's BND secret service wanted to react to AI's charges.

In its report, AI expressed concern that "some officials and institutions" in Pakistan and in other countries including Australia, Germany and the UK may be assisting the US to carry out drone strikes that constitute human rights violations.

AI revealed that the cell phone numbers of drone attack victims had been handed to the CIA by the German side.

The London-based human rights group accused the US of carrying out "unlawful killings" in Pakistan through drone attacks, some of which could even amount to war crimes.
