Iran, Russia set to promote cultural ties: Official

Tehran, Oct 15, IRNA – An Iranian cultural official said that Iran and Russia are determined to upgrade cultural cooperation and called for translating the resolve into practice.

Addressing inaugural ceremony of the Russian Culture Week in Tehran, head of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, Mohammad Baqer Khorramshad said that Russia hosted Iranian Culture Week last year and Iran is hosting the Russian Culture Week in Tehran and Isfahan to reciprocate the move.

He said that ICRO is responsible for developing cultural cooperation with the other nations, adding that ICRO is keen on enhanced cultural ties with the neighboring states as the main agenda.

“Russia enjoys a special status among our neighbors because we organize educational and research courses in the Russian Federation in addition to operation of Iran cultural office,” he said.

Iran has high level cultural relations with Russia, but, there is a long way ahead to reach the desired point in this respect, he said.

Khorramshad hoped that holding cultural weeks, exchanging students, books and promoting tourism will help develop deeper ties between the two states.

Addressing the event, Russian deputy culture minister, Grigory Ivliyev said that excellent cultural ties between Iran and Russia will help promote relations in all fields.

He read out Russia culture minister’s message to the event, in which Iran and Russia were described as two neighbors with ‘bright pages in history’.

Iran and Russia have reached joint understanding which has laid a strong foundation for friendly ties, the message said, adding that holding culture weeks will open a new chapter for boosting cultural cooperation.
