Algerian PM: Iran a powerful country in the region

Tehran, Oct 15, IRNA – Algerian Prime Minister Abdul-malek Salal said Iran is a powerful country in the region with a great civilization and old history.

In a meeting with visiting Iranian Majlis (parliament) Deputy and Head of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Allaeddin Boroujerdi and the accompanying delegation in Algiers on Monday afternoon, Salal called bilateral relations 'excellent', adding that Iran, as a big power in the region, helps stability and balance in the Middle East.

He expressed interest in developing Iran-Algeria relations in all fields and called for more cooperation and convergence on finding a peaceful solution for Syrian crisis and exchanging views in international affairs.

Salal called Iran’s activities in peaceful nuclear program as legitimate right of Iranians.

Boroujerdi, for his part, appreciated Algeria ‘s principled stances on Iran and the Islamic world and expressed Iranians' gratitude for Algeria's role in a peaceful settlement of the dispute between Iran and the USA as well as Algeria's efforts for ceasefire between Iraq and Iran.

Expounding on regional situation, especially developments in Palestine and Syria, Boroujerdi urged Algeria to seek political solutions and prevention of alien interferences and terrorists acts in the Islamic countries.

He also called on Algerian prime minister, who is responsible for high joint commission between the two countries, to covene the second high joint commission in a near future.

During his visit to Algeria, Boroujerdi met with parliaments speakers as well as his counterpart in the parliament and Algerian foreign minister.
