Supreme Leader honors late Ayatollah Kani

Tehran, Oct 21, IRNA – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday honored the late Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani "a revolutionary figure, politician and religious scholar".

In a message to mark departure of celebrated religious leader Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani, the Supreme Leader said that he played brave role as one of close friends of the late Imam Khomeini in culmination of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

The Supreme Leader referred to Mahdavi Kani as a great and pious man who always stood by the right cause as an outspoken revolutionary dignitary.

The 83-year-old chairman of the Assembly of Experts died at hospital on Tuesday after a long coma.

Organizers of the funeral said that Mahdavi Kani will be laid to rest at the holy shrine of Abdolazim, southern Tehran on Thursday.
