Sahar TV Kurdish, Azeri channels to go online 24/7

Tehran, Oct 6, IRNA - The international branch of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) is to provide non-stop service on its Kurdish and Azeri language networks, it was reported on Monday.

The IRIB chief Ezzatollah Zarghami told reporters here that international channels play a key role in defusing hostile policies of arrogant powers at regional and international levels.

Sahar Universal Network (SUN) was established on 1997. It is responsible for broadcasting programs internationally. Programs are produced in English, French, Arabic, Urdu, Azeri, Kurdish and other languages. It is broadcast in Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus, some parts of Northern Africa, Oceania, and all the countries in the subcontinent of India and East Asia.

"In the past years, Iran's international TV networks proved they have been playing an effective role in major regional and international equations," Zarghami said.

He added Iranian international TV channels have had essential influence on activities of their rival networks run by arrogant powers by covering true stories. This has forced antagonist networks to "slightly correct their news coverage policy," Zarghami said.

"They were forced to change their biased attitudes," added the IRIB chief.

He stressed that Iran's international TV networks have attracted an enormous audience for their acceptable performance during major international developments including public movements in US and Europe, the Islamic Awakening and the Wall Street uprising.

Referring to various attampts by the arrogant powers to shut down Iran's international TV networks, Zarghami said those efforts have indicated that IRIB international service had an acceptable performance and influence compared to their western rivals.
