The event was attended by Culture Minister Ali Jannati, the Secretary General of UNESCO for Regional Affairs Esther Kuisch Laroche as well as a number of Iranian officials and prominent Rumi researchers.
Also, Iranian vocalist and musician, Shahram Nazeri, took part in the ceremony.
Rumi was a 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic.
On the occasion of Rumi’s Commemoration Day, Mohammad-Reza Rashed Mohassel, a literature professor, said Mowlana was among the greatest Iranian mystics and poets who has not only enchanted the Iranian people, but also the whole world by his thoughts.
“The conceptual contents of Rumi’s poems are so deep and strong and have almost influenced all other poets.” His great philosophical outlooks, sublime thoughts are among the reasons for the increased effectiveness of his poems which made them eternal, he added.
“Rumi believed that humans have unique potentials and capabilities which distinguish them from others.”
He maintained that human being can feel the spirit and the universe and transcend humanity and get closer to God.
