Zarif: Iran regards Iraq security as its own

Baghdad, August 24, IRNA - Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Sunday that Iran regards Iraq's security as its own.

Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri in Baghdad on Sunday.

Iran is a friend to all Iraqi political groups, Zarif said.

In the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interests, current developments in Iraq as well as regional and international issues.

"Iran stands by all Iraqi people and is a friend of all political groups," he said.

The Iranian foreign minister is now visiting Iraq on a two day official visit.

The visit is taking place at the invitation of Iraqi officials.

Zarif also conferred with some other Iraqi officials on issues of mutual interests.

They discussed ongoing developments in Algeria, terrorism and extremisms as well as regional developments mainly in Iraq.

Zarif's visit to Iraq is part of periodical exchange of visits between the two sides' officials.
