Surgery to prevent pregnancy prohibited

Tehran, Aug 11, IRNA -- Parliamentarians ratified a bill that prohibits all surgical operations to permanently prevent pregnancy, unless the surgery is urgently needed for health.

The bill is in line with the government's plans to increase birthrate and prevent a population decline.

Any violation of the bill will be considered a crime and violators will be fined, based on the committed crime and its frequency.

Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei recently released a 14-point policy to accelerate the country's population growth and reverse its decline.
