Zarif calls on ICRC to send humanitarian aid to Gaza

Tehran, July 28, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, on Monday, called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to make use of all its capacities to send humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip.

In a phone conversation with ICRC President, Peter Maurer, Zarif expressed deep concern over the situation in Gaza and warned against the possibility of a humanitarian crisis in the besieged Palestinian district.

Unfortunately, the Israeli blockade on Gaza has made it difficult to dispatch humanitarian aid to the region battered by three weeks of heavy bombardment which requires immediate act of the international community, Zarif said.

The two sides underlined the need for further coordination between Iran and the ICRC to facilitate sending food and medicine to the crisis-hit region.
