Iran produces ceramic inkjet ink

Tehran, July 23, IRNA -- Researchers at the Institute for Color Science and Technology have produced nano cobalt aluminate (CoAl2O4) pigment for ceramic inkjet ink.

The ink is used in inkjet printers for tile printing on ceramic and stone tiles as well as decorating dishes.

The research was undertaken by Masoud Payman-Nia, Atasheh Soleimani, Mehdi Qahari and Farhoud Najafi.

Soleimani said water-based ink not only has lower production costs but it also reduces environmental pollution.

Different types of nano-CoAl2O4 pigments were prepared by controlling concentration of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as double capping agents.

The prepared nano-CoAl2O4 pigments were dispersed into de-ionized water to form the ink.

The ink-jet printing method can be used to produce a nano-film of pigments on the ceramic.

Inkjet printing is a type of computer printing that creates a digital image by propelling droplets of ink onto paper, plastic, or other substrates. Inkjet printers are the most commonly used type of printer, and range from small inexpensive consumer models to very large professional machines that can cost tens of thousands of dollars, or more.
