Iran supports ceasefire plan acceptable to Palestinians

Tehran, July 23, IRNA – Iran will support any ceasefire plan acceptable to Palestinian people, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said on Wednesday.

Addressing her weekly press briefing, she noted that the outlook of the Palestinian people is important to Iran and Tehran will welcome any ceasefire proposal deemed suitable by leaders of the Resistance Movement.

Hamas has consistently stressed that any proposal for ceasefire with Zionist occupation forces should guarantee removal of Gaza siege.

The Palestinian Resistance Movement also wants the release of dozens of prisoners who were freed in a 2011 swap for captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit but re-arrested this summer.

The Zionist regime has imposed a blockade on Gaza since 2006 and prevents drugs and food and other necessary items from entering Gaza.

So far, more than 650 people have been killed and over 3,700 others injured by the Israeli regime despite pressure from international community.

The Ezzedine al-Qassam brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas, has been launching retaliatory attacks against Zionist occupation forces.

Since July 8, Israeli warplanes have been carrying out incessant airstrikes against Gaza. On July 17, thousands of Israeli soldiers launched a ground invasion into the densely-populated Strip.
