Shamkhani: Iran ready to provide Iraq with food, fuel

Baghdad, July 19, IRNA – Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani says Iran will provide Iraq with fuel and foodstuff.

Speaking to IRNA at the end of his official visit to Iraq, Shamkhani said insecurity northwest of Iraq have caused problems in terms of fuel and foodstuff supply to people of the region.

He said on Iraqi government's call and within framework of the mutual economic accords, Iran will provide the country with fuel and foodstuff.

He added that during his stay he had had favorable consultations with top religious authorities, government officials and party leaders, which were influential in mutual understanding of threats and political and security exigencies on bilateral and regional levels.

He noted that insecurity in Iraq by affiliated terrorist groups in the past 10 years have been main challenges of government in its endeavor for lasting economic and welfare projects. "The first priority of Iraqi government and people is repelling security threats to bring about economic flourishment and public welfare."
