Sharif University to host Int'l School on Strongly Correlated Electron Systems

Tehran, July 19, IRNA -- Physics of Advanced Material (PAM) Research Group at Sharif University of Technology's Department of Physics will organize the First Summer School on Strongly Correlated Electron Systems during September 10-12, 2014.

The aim of the school is to cover the basic concepts of PAM and present the latest achievements in the field.

Michael Farle from the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany, Professor of Experimental Physics and Professor Ganapathy Baskaran will be the keynote speakers at the event.

Baskaran, an Indian theoretical physicist, is known for his work on condensed matter physics and strongly correlated materials. He is an emeritus professor of physics at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in Chennai, India and a Distinguished Research Chair at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Canada.

Topics to be discussed in the event focus on the following subjects:

Non-collinear magnetic structures in nanomagnets

Spin waves in nanomagnets

Crystal field effects in oxide nanomagnets

Strongly correlated quantum matter and emergent gauge field.

Professors, researchers, graduate students who are interested in condensed matter physics, material engineering, nano-materials and chemistry are to participate in the school.

The official language of the school is English and registration deadline is July 25. In view of the limited number of participants, the earlier applicants have priority.
