Serbian director keen on Iranian theater

Tehran, July 16, IRNA -- Director of the Pinocchio Puppet Theater in Belgrade said he is enthusiastic about Iranian theater, according to Thursday edition of the English language newspaper Iran Daily.

Igor Bojović, in a meeting with Iranian Cultural Attaché in Serbia Mahmoud Shaloui, said he is eager to become familiar with performing arts.

He also announced that the newly established and equipped puppet theater hall in Belgrade is available for Iranian troupes to perform in.

Referring to the rich Iranian culture, he said, "It is a pleasure to host Iranian artists in the complex to get the Serbians acquainted with their capabilities."

Bojović said Pinocchio Puppet Theater is the most important puppet troupe in the country which has actively participated in numerous international festivals.

Shaloui also appreciated cooperation with Serbian theater officials and said, "Puppet theater has been successful in recent years in Iran.

"Iranian artists have produced major works inspired by genuine Persian stories and rich cultural assets."

Pinocchio Puppet Theater was founded in 1972 as the traveling puppet theater by a small group of enthusiasts in Belgrade.
