Iran Navy foils pirate attack on oil tanker: Commander

Tehran, July 15, IRNA – Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said here on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s naval forces have successfully foiled a pirate attack on an Iranian oil tanker off the coast of Oman and Yemen.

Sayyari stressed that nine speed boats belonging to the pirates tried to hijack an Iranian vessel but fled after the 30th Fleet of the Iranian Navy arrived on the scene.

He added that the 30th fleet of the Iranian Navy clashed with pirates before they fled.

In recent years, Iran’s Navy has increased its presence in international waters aimed at protecting naval routes and providing security for merchant vessels and tankers.
