Cervical cancer diagnosis kit indigenized

Tehran, July 9, IRNA -- Researchers at Pasteur Institute of Iran have produced a kit for cervical cancer diagnosis.

The researchers indigenized the detective liquid-based cytology (LBC) kit which is used for cervical cancer screening.

According to the institute, the kit is able to compete with those produced abroad while its price is just 75 percent of the foreign version.

The kit is applied for microscopic analysis of cervix samples for qualitative cytological screening which help diagnose cervical cancer and its pre-invasive complications. The kit, which is called pastoCYTOprep, is also used for preparing samples for molecular diagnosis of effective infective factors.

Based on figures, national demand for such kits is about eight million units annually. Domestic production of the kits can not only meet the needs of the country but also prevent the outflow of foreign currency.
