Iran's Mitra Hajjar crowned best actress at Filipino festival

Tehran, July 9, IRNA – Iranian actress Mitra Hajjar won the best actress award for her role in “Romantic Nostalgia”, an Iranian entry in the 1st World Premieres Film Festival in Manila, the Philippines, the organizers announced.

“Romantic Nostalgia” directed by Reza Azimian is about a newly-married young couple, which is suddenly affected by the beginning of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, Wednesday's edition of the English-language daily 'Tehran Times' said.

Winners of the festival, which was held from June 29 to July 8, were announced on July 2.

The best actor award went to Rene Pastor for his role in “Open Wound” from Ecuador.

Forty films from 27 countries were screened during the festival.

“The White Slopes” by Mohammad-Ebrahim Moayyeri and “Green Umbrella” by Naser Refaii were other Iranian entries in the non-competition section of “Cine Verde”.

“Mula Sa Kung Ano Ang Noon” (From What Is Before) by filmmaker Lav Diaz from the Philippines won the Grand Festival Award, and the Grand Jury Award went to “Open Wound” from Ecuador.

John Badalu from Indonesia, Benjamin Illos from France and Roger Garcia from Hong Kong were the main members of the jury.
