Iran official warns about efforts of past gov't associates

Tehran, July 8, IRNA - A number of people related to Iran’s former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are collecting funds for the next round of presidential elections to solicit votes for their candidate.

Making the above statement, Avaz Heydarpour Shahrezaei, member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said these people are among those who owe heavy debts to the banks, wrote 'Iran Daily' in its Tuesday's edition of its paper.

Recently, the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has submitted a list of those who are heavily indebted to Iran’s banking system to the Judicial system of Iran, he said.

He requested the Judicial system to pursue the case seriously.

Referring to the efforts of those related and close to Ahmadinejad to prepare the ground for his re-election in the 12th presidential elections, Shahrezaei noted these people are obtaining massive loans for their purpose.

Moreover, these people obtained their loans when each dollar was sold for about 10,000 rials which means that at present, in view of the significant increase in the rates of the dollar, their property has grown significantly.

He urged the security and judicial systems to seriously pursue the economic cases of the ninth and tenth governments and prevent these people from spending national monetary resources on their objectives.

Shahrezaei noted that the CBI list includes a number of well-known figures.

He stressed that economic corruption will certainly cause social and political ones.

Economic corruptions give birth to other corruptions, he said.
