Ostad Mohammad plays to be republished

Tehran, July 7, IRNA -- The first and last plays by the late playwright and director Mahmoud Ostad Mohammad will be published to mark his first death anniversary on July 25, 2014.

Tuesday edition of the English language newspaper Iran Daily wrote that Hossein Tahouri, who is in charge of Qoqnous Publications, said the institute has decided to republish 'As Seyd Kazem' (1972) and 'McAdam Café' (2010), the first and last plays of the artist.

Born in Tehran, Ostad Mohammad started his stage career as an actor in plays directed by several Iranian theater masters such as Abbas Javanmard and Nosrat Rahmani when he was a teenager.

Then he joined the 'Theater Atelier' a famous ensemble which was led by the eminent Iranian playwright Bijan Mofid.

Ostad Mohammad was one of the most influential stage talents in Iranian theater.

Ostad Mohammad wrote and directed many plays that went on the Iranian and international stages. He also wrote several plays while living in Canada from 1985-1998, representing Iranian theater blended with the basic principles of modern Western theater.

'The Last Game' (1999), 'The Theatric Divan' (2001) 'House of Pain and Grief' (2003) and 'Family Photograph' (2008) are some of his remarkable works.

'Aa Seyd Kazem (Mr. Seyyed Kazem) is also his well-known creation which has been adapted from a true story of a man who was accused of murder and isolated from society. The play gained much acclaim from critics, stage directors and playwrights.

Ostad Mohammad, who was suffering from liver cancer, died in July 25, 2013 after battling the illness for three years.
