Nearly 270 professors back minister

Tehran, July 6, IRNA - Nearly 270 professors of Tehran University have voiced support for Minister of Science, Research and Technology Reza Faraji Dana.

In a letter, the lecturers thanked the minister for upholding the university’s peaceful atmosphere, 'Iran Daily' wrote in its Upside/Downside column on Sunday.

“The selected council of the board of Tehran University, which was formed on your advice, helped increasing tranquility, unity and trust among the professors of the university,” they said in the letter to Faraji Dana.

The letter came as a group of MPs prepared a motion to impeach the minister.

MP Mahmoud Negahban Salami said on Wednesday that ‘hire and fire’ of officials of the ministry is the main reason for the motion.

The Majlis is gearing up to impeach Faraji Dana along with two other ministers before the MPs go on two-week summer recess. They include Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian, and Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati. Lawmakers have apparently presented the impeachment motions for Faraji Dana and Chitchian to the Majlis Presiding Board and seek to rally support for grilling Hojjati.
