Iran, Qatar to establish joint free economic zone

Tehran, July 6, IRNA - Iran and Qatar have agreed to establish a joint free economic zone in the Islamic Republic, a senior Iranian official said here on Sunday.

Talking to IRNA, a member of Presiding Board of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture Mohammad-Hossein Barkhordar said the southern Bushehr province and its vicinity have been chosen for the purpose.

Barkhordar noted that expansion of foreign trade with regional and neighboring countries will considerably boost the Iranian economy.

Promotion of cooperation with Qatar plays a pivotal role in steady growth of the Iranian market, he added.

Barkhordar, also head of Iranian Imports Association, reiterated that Qatar could be considered a hub for export of Iranian commodities including vegetables, fruits, poultry, meats, fish and shrimp, as well as construction materials such as tiles and ceramics.
