Iran, Afghanistan underline enhancing bilateral ties

Kabul, July 2, IRNA – Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs, Ebrahim Rahimpour, in a meeting on Tuesday stressed the need for promotion of bilateral relationships in all fields.

They also discussed issues of mutual concern during the meeting in Afghan presidential palace, Arg.

Karzai appreciated Iran's cooperation with his country in the past, saying that Iran is a good neighbor and friend of Afghanistan.

"One of the main achievements of Afghanistan in the past decade is enhancement of ties with neighbors such the Islamic Republic of Iran," he said.

"I am sure that the next Afghan president will favor further consolidation of ties between the two neighboring states," Karzai noted.

Both officials touched on religious, cultural and lingual commonalities between the two countries, hoping that mutual cooperation would further improve in future.
