Iran will help Iraq upon Baghdad's demand: Nobakht

Tehran, July 2, IRNA – Government Spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said on Wednesday Iran will help the government and people of Iraq encounter terrorists if asked to do so by Baghdad.

He made the announcement while speaking to reporters at the end of a cabinet session in the Iranian capital.

Nobakht stressed that Iran was closely watching the ongoing developments in Iraq.

Referring to the event which happened in the first session of Iraqi parliament on Tuesday, Nobakht expressed hope that representatives of the Iraqi people would consider their national interest and act with due consideration and wisdom against the plots of big powers and the Zionist regime to divide the country.

The first meeting of Iraq's new parliament following April elections ended less than two hours after it began on Tuesday, with the lawmakers failing to make progress in choosing a new speaker, president or prime minister.
