Tehran-Doha to confer on free zone formation

Tehran, July 2, IRNA - Secretary of the Center for Free and Special Economic Zones Akbar Torkan said Tuesday that he will discuss ways of establishing a joint free zone with Qatari officials.

Torkan, who arrived in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday at the head of a trade delegation, carried a message of President Hassan Rouhani to Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The issue of establishing the free zone was first proposed in the joint press conference of Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Qatari counterpart Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah in February 2014.

Speaking in the conference, Zarif announced that a joint committee will be set up between Iran and Qatar to follow up the implementation of agreements pertaining to different fields.

In June, during the visit of a group of Qatari investors to Bushehr province, the establishment of the free zone was again discussed.
