Morvarid Palace to become historical, cultural complex, ceded to ACHD

Tehran, April 27, IRNA - Morvarid Palace has been ceded to Alborz Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Department upon the verdict of Karaj Prosecutor General’s Office.

The verdict said that it is necessary to preserve this historical and cultural complex as one of the testimonies of people’s contribution to Islamic Revolution.

The verdict further says that the Alborz Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department (ACHD) has been asked to preserve the palace by renovating and repairing both the exterior and interior designs on a higher scale to make it more beautiful than before and also to pave the grounds for public visits.

Mohammad Hassan Talebiyan Deputy of the Cultural Heritage department believes that once the site is completed and opened to the public, it can be considered as one of the precious treasures of contemporary art and architecture by interior designers, construction professionals and architectural experts.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation constructed Morvarid Palace on the order of Shams Pahlavi in 1966.

Shams, the elder sister of the deposed Shah, selected Mehrshahr as her residence.

The palace, with a built-up area of 2,500 meters, was established in an area of 111 hectares of land.

It includes numerous sites such as Shams office, reception hall, cinema, billiard saloon, swimming pool, waterscape, the site for keeping rare birds and bedrooms.
