Philippine parliament speaker to visit Iran

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 30, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for consular affairs Hassan Ghashghavi conferred on Thursday with Speaker of the Philippine Parliament, Feliciano Belmonte on expansion of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

In the meeting, Ghashghavi submitted a letter to the Philippine parliament speaker on behalf of Iran's Majlis Speaker Ali Larijanin inviting him to pay an official visit to Tehran.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the fifth Tehran-Manila meeting on Consular Cooperation.

Referring to the establishment of Iran-Philippines friendship group in the Iranian Majls, he called for formation of a similar group in the Philippine parliament.

Thanking for the invitation, the Philippine parliament speaker expressed the hope to visit Tehran at the head of a parliamentary delegation this year simultaneous with the 50th anniversary of establishment of ties between the two countries.

Referring to the high status of the Islamic Republic of Iran among Muslim countries, he called for Iran's assistance and support in the course of peace negotiations between the Philippine government and Muslims in the country.
