Supreme Leader: Grounds well prepared for expansion of Tehran-Ankara relations

Tehran, Jan 29, IRNA – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that grounds are now well prepared for expansion of all-out relations between Iran and Turkey.

The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday.

Friendship and affinity between the two nations over the past centuries is very unprecedented, said Ayatollah Khamenei.

Since the two sides are determined to implement previously-inked agreements, this will consolidate their ties and bring them more development and prosperity, said the Supreme Leader.

The two sides should seize the opportunity and make use of existing opportunities to consolidate bilateral ties, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The Turkish premier, for his part, conveyed the warm greetings of the Turkish president and nation to the Supreme Leader and said he regards Iran as his second home.

He described his meeting with President Rouhani and other Iranian officials as fruitful and promising and expressed the hope that the two sides' relations would turn into an exemplary model for the region and the the entire world.

Signing of a document on expansion of cooperation between Iran and Turkey should be regarded as a significant move, he said, adding that through exchange of more visits bilateral relations will further broaden.
