One killed, two injured in landmine explosions in NW Pakistan

Islamabad, Jan 28, IRNA - A woman was killed and two others were injured when two landmines exploded in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region on Tuesday, official sources said.

According to sources, unknown persons had installed two bombs at a roadside in Upper Kurram near the Pak-Afghan border.

Following the incident, the political administration in the area cordoned off the site of explosion and a search operation went underway.

Kurram is one of the seven regions in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), governed by tribal laws.

Meanwhile the police has foiled a sabotage attempt and defused a half-kilogram bomb in Peshawar.

The city of Peshawar has seen frequent attacks by militants in the past few years, with targets ranging from civilians to policemen and other law enforcement personnel.
