Iran-Sri Lanka economic ties to promote in future

Kashan, Esfahan Prov, Jan 26, IRNA – Member of Iran-Sri Lanka Friendship Group Mohammad Firouzi said Sunday that the two countries are to boost bilateral economic and parliamentary relations in near future.

Firouzi made the remarks while speaking to IRNA in this central provincial city.

Referring to a recent visit to Sri Lanka by an Iranian delegation, the official said Iranian and Lankan officials exchanged views on construction of a number of joint development projects including building of two dams with the capacity of generating 120 MG of electricity by Iranian experts as well as construction of a water supply project in southern parts of that country.

Firouzi said during the visit to Sri Lanka, the Iranian delegation also met with the newly elected president of Maldives and a number of that country’s parliamentarians in Colombo who were also on a visit to that Indian Ocean nation.

Maldives, officially the Republic of the Maldives and also referred to as the Maldive Islands, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean.

The newly elected Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is in Sri Lanka on a three-day official visit.
