Political leader slams UN for disinviting Iran to Syria confab

Islamabad, Jan 23, IRNA - A Pakistani political leader on Thursday slammed the United Nations for disinviting Iran to the international conference on Syria in the Swiss city of Montreux.

Talking to IRNA Senior Vice President of Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Agha Murtaza Poya criticized the decision made by the UN Secretary-General Ban ki-moon adding that peace in Middle East cannot be restored without Iran's assistance.

“Ban ki-moon is a US salve and has taken the decision to please his masters,” he said.

Agha Murtaza added that despite the fact that Iran is a major country and plays an important role in the Middles East, the US made a great mistake by exerting pressure on the UN to withdraw its invitation to Iran.

“Certain Arab countries as well as the Zionist regime are trying to destabilize Middle East region for their own interests,” he noted, adding that Washington well knows that peace cannot be restored to the Mideast without support of Iran.

He strongly believed that the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation has failed to protect the rights of Muslims.

Senior Vice President of Pakistan Awami Tehreek added that he does not pin much hope in the international conference on Syria.
