Chinese ambassador: Silk Road should be revived

Anzali, Jan 22, IRNA – Chinese Ambassador to Tehran Yu Hongyan said on Wednesday that Silk Road should be revived to help boost Iranian economy and spread culture.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the Managing Director of Anzali Free Trade Zone Alireza Masrour.

Silk Road was a very important route connecting China and Europe via Iran and central Asia, he said adding that the ancient route also helped promote cultural relations and friendship.

Revival of Silk Road will be to the benefit of China as well as other countries in terms of economic cooperation, the Chinese ambassador said.

He said revival of land road, setting up railway and airlines and economic cooperation should be taken into consideration.

The Chinese ambassador said that ties between countries located on Silk Road will be to the benefit of all countries and bring them economic development and role of Iran is of high importance due to its proximity to Turkey and Europe.

The idea was welcomed by the Iranian officials, he said adding that it is expected Iran to be the partner of China in implementing the project.

Chinese companies in the region are very pleased with the standard services furnished by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region, said the Chinese ambassador.

Managing Director of Anzali Free Trade Zone, for his part, outlined the privileges of the region and invited the Chinese businessmen to invest and play leading role to this end.

Silk Road was a bridge connecting east, west and south Asia to north Africa and East Europe.
