US, Arab allies policies doomed to failure in Syria: cleric

Islamabad, Jan 22, IRNA – A Pakistani religious leader on Wednesday said that US and its allies in Middle East will not be able to accomplish their evil designs in Syria.

Talking to IRNA, Allama Amin Shaheedi, Deputy Secretary General of Majlis Wehdat Muslemeen (MWM) said that UN chief's move to withdraw his invitation to Iran for attending the Geneva II Conference shows western biased approach towards Iran.

He said that Iran is not invited to the conference because it is the only country that would resist against implementation of American doctrine in Syria.

He added that people of Syria are fully aware of western conspiracies and would not accept any move against the interest of their own country.

The Geneva II conference on Syria kicked off in the Swiss city of Montreux today and then will move to the UN headquarters in Geneva on January 24 after a one-day break.

Allama Shaheedi added that the US and some Arab countries have supported terrorists in Syria but failed to accomplish their evil designs against the country. He noted that they want to change the government of Bashar Al-Assad because he is pursuing independent policies.

“The terrorists sent by other states have tried their utmost to destabilize Syria but in vain,” he viewed, stressing that any solution without participation of Iran will not be long lasting in Syria.

Praising Iran's positive role in Syria, he said, “US and its Arab allies want to impose a solution to Syrian crisis against the wishes of the Syrian people”.

Allama Shaheedi said that transitional government in Syria would not be acceptable to the Syrian people.

He noted that Iran is not interested in participating in the Geneva II Conference because of the US irrational insistence on setting conditions for it.

He asked western states to respect the rights of Syrian people and let the people of Syria to decide the fate of their own county.
